Khedira: We will give our all to win the Champions League
Sami Khedira has stressed that Real Madrid will give their all to win the Champions League this term, but conceded that retaining their Liga title will be a nearly impossible task.
The Santiago Bernabeu side are trailing arch rivals Barcelona by 16 points at the moment, but Khedira is adamant that they can still win silverware this season.
"Winning La Liga is impossible. However, we are third and our aim has to be to get second," Khedira was quoted as saying on the DFB website.
"And we are in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey and still in the Champions League.
"The dream of all the fans is to win the tenth, the 'decima', and we'll do everything we can to achieve it. And we have a good chance.
"However, it will only be possible if we recover our confidence in La Liga. That is still an important competition."
Real Madrid meet Manchester United in the Champions League round of 16.

Miranda keen to take chance to impress with Brazil
Brazil international Miranda believes he has what it takes to succeed with the national team.
The Atletico Madrid defender picked up six caps while playing for Sao Paulo but this is his first call up since moving to Spain.
I know what Ive got to offer. To be honest, its been some time now that Ive been playing better here than I did at Sao Paulo where I made the Brazil team a few times, he told Fifa.com.
The Selecao is all about taking your chance when it comes around though, and you have to be ready.
Mirandas Atletico Madrid team-mate Filipe Luis is also in the Brazil squad for the friendly with England, and is looking to add to his one cap by improving his defensive displays.
"Defence is very important in Europe. It counts for a lot," he said."We are growing all the time, winning trophies and achieving big things, and we have to keep it going.
"My weakness was defending. Here, full-backs have to defend first and then attack and I think thats where Ive improved the most. Ive come on a lot and Im a more rounded player now.

Cavani concentrating on securing Serie A glory with Napoli
Napoli forward Edinson Cavani is putting speculation regarding his future to one side to focus on the chance of winning Serie A.
The 25-year-old has attracted interest from both Real Madrid and Barcelona in recent transfer windows and, while the striker admits he is flattered by the link, he reiterated his commitment to the Partenopei.
"Real Madrid and Barcelona are two great clubs, amongst the strongest in the world, and it is obvious that they can attract," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport on Tuesday.
"The tension rises just when you name those two sides. However, I honestly dont know whether there is the option to join one of those.
At the moment I have the opportunity to win the Scudetto with Napoli and Im just concentrating on that aim.
"I still have four years left on my contract. You never know what will happen in football, but I just work on a day-by-day basis to get the best."
Cavani currently leads the race for the capocannoniere having netted 18 times this league season.

Benzema: Real Madrid still have the Champions League to play for
Karim Benzema has stressed the need for unity within theReal Madrid ranks for the remainder of the season to help them in their quest for a 10th Champions League success.
Los Blancos slumped to their fifth defeat of the league campaign in the 1-0 loss to Granada on Saturday and now trail leaders Barcelona by 16 points.
But despite admitting the Blaugrana now hold an almost unassailable lead over their bitter rivals, Benzema is hopeful Madrid can enjoy a strong end to the season and achieve success in the remaining competitions.
"We have the Champions League to play for and that is a special competition especially for this club," the 25-year-old told Marca.
"And then there is the Copa semi-final with Barcelona which is also very open.
At this point in time, the team has to be united. We all have the same goal and we will not give up.
"We know we can do better. We are all disappointed by the defeat and I want to say sorry to the fans. We admit that winning the League is going to be difficult, but we have to fight until the end.
"It is a long road ahead and we know we can go far."
Real Madrid face Manchester United next week in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Ronaldinho tips Neymar to become world's best
Brazil legend Ronaldinho has tipped Neymar to surpass Lionel Messi as the world's best player in the coming years.
The Santos striker is understood to be the most sought-after talent in world football and Ronaldinho has backed the starlet to emulate Messi in the near future.
Speaking to The Daily Mail ahead of Brazil's friendly with England, he said: "Messi for the last three or four years has been the best player in the world - he has been at a level of consistency I don't think the world has seen before.
Neymar is young though, and I can't explain how special he will become. In the next two or three seasons he will become the best player."
The 32-year-old also denied regretting a move to England, but expressed sorrow having not played with former Barca team-mate Messi for longer.
He added: "Do I regret not playing in England? No, because I have played for some of the biggest teams in the world and won everything.
The only regret is not playing more seasons with Lionel Messi. He is my good friend.
I could see even at a young age he was going to be the best. It was exciting to see this kid who could do things most players can only dream of.

Ribery: Bayern Munich are as good as Real Madrid and Barcelona
Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has revealed that he believes the German giants are as good as Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The France international admitted that the club's decision to bring in Pep Guardiola as the team's new coach in the summer means they are now amongst the top three sides in world football.
"Guardiola is Guardiola. His arrival shows that Bayern are not just any other club," he told L'Equipe.
"If you can sign Guardiola then you are at the top level. Bayern is one of the three best clubs in the world, along with Madrid and Barca.
"It was logical for the club to announce Guardiolas signing when they did, for the rumours that surrounded him and our club."
The 29-year-old also praised current trainer Jupp Heynckes and reaffirmed his stance that he wants to remain with the Bundesliga leaders until the end of his career.
He added: "Heynckes restored my confidence at Bayern, I do not believe I will be leaving this team."

Only Messi and Ronaldo are better than Bale, claims Vertonghen
Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen insists Gareth Bale "could play for every team in the world".
The in-form Welshman is a long-term transfer target of Real Madrid, with a bid from the Bernabeu expected when the transfer window re-opens in the summer.
Bale has also attracted interest from Barcelona and Vertonghen believes that Clasico rivals Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the only two players that trump the Wales star at the moment.
"Of course you have Messi and Ronaldo," Vertonghen told Sky Sports.
"And then you've got a lot of players who are very close to each other and I think Gareth Bale is one of them, like at the level of the best teams in the world.
"He could play for every team in the world. For me he's a world class player."
The 25-year-old also defended Goran Popov, after the Macedonaian was sent off while playing against Spurs on Sunday for spitting towards Kyle Walker.
"I think he knows," said Vertonghen. "It's an emotional reaction and I think he knows he's wrong.

Sabella: Messi more than a footballer
Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella has hailed Barcelona star Lionel Messi as "more than a player" as his side prepare to take on Sweden on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old recently won his fourth straight Ballon d'Or, and broke Gerd Muller's 40-year strong record of 85 goals in a single calendar year.
"He's the best player in the world. He's more than a player, he's an incredible athlete, who always looks for new challenges," he told Svenska Dagbladet.
Looking ahead to Wednesday's clash, Sabella went on to say that he is expecting a tough clash against the Swedes.
"Sweden will be very well organised," he commented.
Meanwhile, Blagult boss Erik Hamren claimed that his side were approaching the clash with a mixture of fear and excitement.
"The game will be a mixture of pleasure and terror. If we have a bad day we could concede a lot of goals. It will be a challenge."

Birthday boy Ronaldo has big decisions to make over his Real Madrid future

Birthdays are often a time for reflection. As the years pass by, a new anniversary brings extra questions; thoughts concerning projects, plans and dreams, the next steps in life: the future. And all of that is likely to be running through the mind of Cristiano Ronaldo right now.
The Portuguese celebrates his 28th birthday on Tuesday and, although exhibiting the finest football in what has been a wonderful career, the forward is now approaching the final few years of his playing days - with his Real Madrid future far from certain.
So will he stay at the club where he is now an idol? Should he leave and make one last big move? Can Madrid afford to lose him? Can they even afford to keep him?
Cristiano's current contact expires in 2015 and changes in tax laws in Spain mean Madrid will need to fork out a fortune to retain the services of their prized possession. But with Ronaldo keen to see out his present deal, the Spanish side also risk losing their star man - for whom they paid 94m in 2009 - for a reduced fee in the summer of 2014. One way or the other, then, a decision must be made in the summer.
Ronaldo was upset at Madrid and made his feelings publicly known after scoring twice in the 3-0 over Granada in September. The Portuguese was unhappy at the lack of support he was receiving from senior figures at the club as he attempted to win the Ballon d'Or. He needed to feel loved.
Madrid faced Granada once more on Saturday and it was Cristiano's unfortunate own-goal (the first of his career) which separated the two teams this time.
Much, however, has changed in between those two matches. Madrid may be 16 points behind Barcelona in La Liga, but Ronaldo has been the one shining light in a calamitous campaign so far for Jose Mourinho's men. And he has looked especially impressive since the disappointment of missing out on the Ballon d'Or to rival Lionel Messi earlier this year. Cristiano now has 10 goals for his side in 2013 and 179 in total for the capital club - in just 178 appearances.
But will he stay?
The Portuguese earns around 10m after tax on his present deal, but with his representatives keen to negotiate a new arrangement worth 15m in net wages, as well as exclusive image rights, Madrid may be left out of pocket by agreeing to a new deal.
The image rights are currently split 60/40 in Ronaldo's favour and Madrid would lose that income should they agree to their player's difficult demands. More of a concern, however, will be his wages.
The problem lies in the abolition of the so-called 'Beckham Law', which allowed foreigners who had lived in Spain for less than 10 years and who earned above 120,000 per annum to pay a lower tax rate of around 23 per cent and not the usual 45%. David Beckham was one of the first to take advantage of the law after his move from Manchester United in 2003.
Cristiano arrived while that law was still in force and continues to benefit from the arrangement. However, the Spanish government has since scrapped the initiative and any new deal would see Ronaldo required to pay 52% of his salary to the taxman. Madrid, therefore, are faced with a difficult dilemma. Give in to their player's demands and they will be hit with an annual outlay close to 31m - just to pay the Portuguese the net 15m he has asked for.
That may seem a huge hardship for the club, yet the alternative is even more unthinkable. Without Cristiano, Madrid look an ordinary team and there is simply no replacement for the Portuguese. Lionel Messi, unlike Luis Figo back in 2000, would never swap Camp Nou for the Bernabeu, while Neymar (who also celebrates a birthday on Tuesday) is far from the finished article and looks likely to join Barcelona anyway. Tottenham's Gareth Bale and Atletico's Radamel Falcao have also been named as twin targets should Ronaldo walk away, but those two would cost a combined 100m, maybe more, while the Welshman admitted recently that he would be delighted to be even half as good as the Portuguese. So he has some way to go yet.
For his part, Ronaldo has responded positively on the pitch, shown a more generous attitude towards defensive duties and recently defended Mourinho publicly. A change in body language, demeanour and a more humble approach off the pitch have seen the Portuguese's popularity peak at the Bernabeu, where he has been hailed with chants of "Cristiano, Balon de Oro" in recent games, and in the dressing room, as he has developed a closer relationship with the Spanish stars such as Iker Casillas, Xabi Alonso and Sergio Ramos, having previously formed part of the group of foreign players.
Problems with the club have also been resolved following a conversation with president Florentino Perez and today's Ronaldo is a much happier version than September's sad and sorry soul. Madrid now believe he is willing to stay and be part of the club's future, with or without Mourinho, while they are also aware of his immense importance to their hopes of challenging both Barcelona at home and Europe's elite in the Champions League.
If Madrid can make the sums add up - not an easy ask, but one that will be facilitated by the sale of Kaka - then the chances of a new deal being agreed for Ronaldo in the summer are favourable. It's what Ronaldo, the fans, and the club are truly wishing for as the Portuguese superstar blows out his 28 candles.

Cristiano Ronaldo: I will play for Portugal whether or not I'm 100% fit
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has declared himself available for Portugal's midweek friendly with Ecuador, but has admitted he is not fully fit.
The 27-year-old is believed to be suffering from a muscle strain and Portugal boss Paulo Bento is expected to make a decision on the inclusion of his captain on Tuesday, following a fitness test.
And Ronaldo has revealed he hopes to play some role in Wednesday's game despite his minor fitness worry.
"I give my body and soul to Portugal. It is an honour to represent my country and I will contribute whether or not I am 100% fit on Wednesday," Ronaldo told a press conference.
If the forward is passed fit, it will see him come up against the man who replaced him at Manchester United, Antonio Valencia, and the United legend has spoken highly of his successor at Old Trafford.
He added: "He [Antonio] is a very fast player with great technique. It will not be an easy match."

Copa del Rey semi-final second leg dates announced
The dates for the much-anticipated second leg clashes in Spains Copa del Rey semi-final have been announced.
Barcelona will host Real Madrid at Camp Nou on Tuesday, February 26 with the game nicely poised at one goal apiece.
The second semi-final will conclude the following day, with Atletico Madrid looking to hold onto their slender 2-1 lead from the first leg against Sevilla.
The final is due to take place on the May 18, with the hosting ground to be announced by the Spanish Football Federation once the finalists are known.

Cuenca: Frank de Boer played major role in Ajax decision
Barcelona forward Cuenca admits Ajax coach Frank de Boer had a "major" impact in his decision to join the club on loan in January.
The Spain Under-23 International has missed most of this season with a knee injury, but is eager to get his career back on track in Netherlands.
When discussing his move, Cuenca told reporters he was delighted to sign for the Amsterdam giants and to learn off the former Blaugrana players.
"I am very happy to be here. I could have gone to many other clubs, but Ajax's 4-3-3 style of play is similar to Barcelona.
The presence of the former Barcelona players Frank de Boer and Marc Overmars played a major role. They knew me well and wanted me.
The 21-year-old Spaniard, who has scored twice in La Liga, went on to state that he is fully fit and ready to play when called upon by coach De Boer.
He said: "I hope to play this weekend, but that is a decision of the coach. Now I am 100 per cent fit. I feel healthy and strong.

Iniesta looks to make amends for Barcelona shortcomings
Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has revealed the Blaugrana have more motivation to bring success to the Camp Nou supporters after last season's disappointment in the major trophies.
The Catalan giants won the Copa del Rey, Uefa Super Cup, Club World Cup and Spanish Super Cup but had to watch rivals Real Madrid secure La Liga and Chelsea's Champions League success.
But the 28-year-old has insisted Barca can draw on the disappointment on missing out on the Spanish Primera Division title and Champions League to inspire them to success in these competitions this year.
"In 2012 we were right on the verge of where we needed to be to win things, but we just fell a little short," he told FIFA.com.
"This year well use that as an incentive to fight for every trophy once more.
"At Barca, we're always expected to fight for every title and that's what we did. And we've gone all the way in other years, even though we fell short last time."
Meanwhile, the World Cup winner also revealed he does not plan to leave Camp Nou anytime soon, but admits he will let his form dictate how long he has left in Barca colours.
He added: "Leaving doesnt even cross my mind right now because Im in the best place I could ever be. That said, itll be my performances that decide how long I carry on.
"The day that I dont feel I can give 100 per cent [Ill stop], because I wouldnt want to cheat the club."

Alves: Atletico Madrid are our main rivals, not Real
Barcelona right-back Dani Alves believes that Atletico Madrid are his side's main rivals for the Liga title and not reigning champions Real Madrid.
Tito Vilanova's men currently top the table with a nine-point advantage over Atletico, with Blancos 16 points adrift and the defender has insisted it is Diego Simeone's side who currently pose the bigger threat.
"People talk a lot about Madrid when our rivals are Atletico," the 29-year-old told reporters.
"We should not look to the team in third place, because there is a team in second. They are closer and, if we do not pay attention, they could surprise us."
He then praised the "intelligence" of the Blaugrana in coming away from Valencia with a point on Sunday, despite not being at their fluent best.
"Given the circumstances of the game, we are leaving happy to have picked up something at a ground like this," he added.
"When you are not at your best, you must be intelligent - if you cannot win, you need to get a point."
Barca resume Liga action on February 10, when they host Getafe at Camp Nou.

Real Sociedad bought banned substances, claims ex-president
Former Real Sociedad president Inaki Badiola claims the Basque club bought banned substances during a six-year period between 2001 and 2007.
Badiola, who was in charge at the San Sebastian club between January and December of 2008, told the AS newspaper he uncovered payments for "doping products".
"In 2008, our board reported that in the previous six seasons, at least, the board had given [staff] money to buy medicines or products that, at that moment, were catalogued as doping products," the 48-year-old explained to AS.
Badiola claims he has two files with evidence of these transactions and an e-mail requesting payment for doping products, which he says was declined.
"They acquired substances which were not authorised. In fact, there is an e-mail which names some of the products they wanted to buy - and we did not authorise it. They are practices which should never have taken place."
Sociedad declined to comment on Monday, but LFP president Jose Luis Astiazaran (who was in charge of the Basque outfit between 2001 and 2005) released an official statement in which he denied any wrongdoing during his time at the club.
He stated: "During the period of my mandate as president of Real Sociedad, I never had any knowledge or suspicion that any illegal practices were being carried out with regard to the medical services, who always worked with the maximum ethics and professionalism."
Astiazaran also called Badiola's claims "totally false" and revealed he is considering legal action against the former Sociedad chief.
The allegations emerged as Spanish doctor Eufemiano Fuentes remains under the spotlight in the ongoing Operacion Puerto doping investigation. In court last week, Fuentes offered to reveal the identity of the 200 blood bags uncovered in raids on his premises in 2006 which, he said, included cyclists, boxers and footballers, but the judge declined to follow up.
The Basques narrowly missed out on winning La Liga in 2002-03, finishing second behind Real Madrid.

It was always going to be interesting to see which of January's big-money movers would settle in the quickest; in the end, the standout player of the week was also one of the bargain buys of the transfer window.
Moussa Sissoko, one of the much-publicised sea of players to swap Ligue 1 for Newcastle, put in a memorable debut performance against Chelsea to belie his relatively meagre transfer fee. Bossing the game from the middle of midfield throughout, he struck two superbly-taken goals to hand the Magpies a dramatic 3-2 win, and but for the efforts of goalkeeper Petr Cech, he could have added to his tally.
In a season in which Alan Pardew's side have struggled to find consistency, the pace, power, willingness to run and eye for goal of Sissoko could prove crucial in turning their campaign around, if his match-winning contribution on Saturday is anything to go by.
Goal.com's Miles Chambers had this to say on Sissoko's sensational debut: "Newcastle United's season has been a calamitous affair at times, but their January transfer window was a steamrolling success if Moussa Sissoko's home debut is anything to go by.
"He held his own alongside compatriot Yohan Cabaye in a midfield that was going up against the European champions, but where he really shone was in front of goal. He powered forwards up the pitch to convert Yoan Gouffran's grafted attempt, made Ashley Cole look like a tortoise with a Yaya Toure-esque sprint down the right chasing a seemingly lost cause, and then sent St James' Park wild with his last-minute strike.
"It's early doors for the outrageously cheap (roughly 2.3 million) France international, but he has certainly given an impeccable first impression to Premier League fans."

Llorente targets Champions League success with Juventus
Fernando Llorente believes he is joining "the best team in Italy" in Juventus, and is confident they can mount a serious Champions League challenge in the future.
The Athletic Bilbao striker has signed an agreement to join the Serie A champions in the summer when his deal with the Liga side expires, and is hopeful of winning a number of trophies with Antonio Conte's side once he finally completes his protracted move.
"For me Athletic has been everything, my club for life, but I am going to the best team in Italy, to one of the best in Europe and the world. Triumphing at Juve is a dream, a great challenge for me," he told AS.
"I have had offers from many teams, but it is a very good project. Juve have strongly backed me from the first moment and I have been clear on that.
"I have always liked the competitive spirit of Italian teams; they are the best, and I think that they are the ideal team to try to win the Champions League.
"Theyre a winning team, with the aim of winning many titles in the next few years. I see myself there and the future that awaits me excites me so much, and the method of playing that the team has, although I still dont think about that because I am concentrating on Athletic."
Llorente has been left out Vicente del Bosque's latest Spain squad to face Uruguay this week, but is hoping to win back his place in the national team in time for the 2014 World Cup.
"It hurts me a lot (not being in the national team)," he added.

Atletico Madrid would be on the way to La Liga glory, but for unbreakable Barcelona

When Lionel Messi picked up his fourth consecutive Ballon d'Or earlier this year, many observers conceded that runner-up Cristiano Ronaldo was unlucky to be playing in an era dominated by the amazing Argentine forward. Similarly, Atletico Madrid may feel unfortunate to be up against his brilliant Barcelona side in La Liga this term.
Barca dropped two points on Sunday in a tough fixture at Valencia, with the home side holding the Catalans to a 1-1 draw at Mestalla. Later on, Atletico beat Betis to move two points away from third-placed Real Madrid and two closer to the league leaders. And yet they remain well off the pace in La Liga, nine behind Barcelona after 22 games and with seemingly little hope of closing that deficit in the remaining 16 rounds of the championship.
Nevertheless, Atletico's merits should not go unrecognised in what has been a superb season for Diego Simeone's side. Sunday's success represented a 20th consecutive win at the Vicente Calderon - and a 12th in a row at home in La Liga. Up until recently a ground where smaller sides came and took all three points with alarming regularity, Atletico's home has become a feared fortress over the last year and no side has managed to even claim a draw there this term.
It has not always been pretty. Atletico were forced to grind out a result on Sunday as Diego Costa came off the bench to hit the only goal of the game. Simeone's side have built their foundations on a strong defence which has conceded only six at home in La Liga this term, and three of those came in their second Calderon clash of the season - a 4-3 win over local rivals Rayo Vallecano in which the locals almost let a 4-0 lead slip in the final minutes.
That lesson was quickly learnt and Atleti's remarkable record has seen 36 points picked up from 12 home matches, along with 14 from their 10 fixtures on the road.
Visits to both Barcelona and Real Madrid ended in defeats before Christmas, but Atletico have still lost fewer games (four) than any side in La Liga other than the Catalans - beaten only once so far in the Primera Division in 2012-13.
Asked about the champions on Sunday, Barca's Dani Alves said simply: "People talk about Madrid, but Atletico are our challengers [in La Liga]."
Barca and Madrid are yet to visit the Calderon this term, but will face tough tests against Simeone's side on the red and white side of the capital. Even if Atleti win both of those matches, however, it is unlikely to be sufficient to claw back the gap on a seemingly unbreakable Barcelona team. But with Madrid faltering, second spot looks more of a reality as the weeks pass, and whatever happens in the final fixtures, Atletico are now finally living up to their label as Spain's third grande. They are just unfortunate to be up against a Barca side still on course to shatter the points record in La Liga this term.

Barcelona lacked intensity & freshness, says Roura
Barcelona assistant coach Jordi Roura has bemoaned the sides lack of intensity in their 1-1 result with Valencia on Sunday night, but thinks a draw was the fair result.
Ever Banega put the hosts ahead at the Mestalla before Lionel Messi scored in his 12th Liga game in a row, this time from the penalty spot, to make it 1-1, and Roura believes the Blaugrana lacked freshness after their Copa del Rey semi-final with Real Madrid in midweek.
He told reporters after the match: "There is no doubt that we come into this after a very tough match in Madrid.
Our showing in the first half cost us, and Valencia had a great intensity in the second, playing higher up the pitch, from a physical standpoint.
As always, we came with the intention of winning, but what happened was we found it difficult at the Mestalla and, in the end, a draw is fair enough.
"We lacked intensity in the first half. We lacked depth in the second half; we had three or four very clear chances. Overall, we did not have the freshness of other games, but it's understandable. "
Tito Vilanovas assistant also heralded goalkeeper Victor Valdes for his display on the night, with the Camp Nou shot-stopper having received a lot of criticism since making his decision not to sign a new contract.
Roura said: "We are delighted with Victor, we have always said he is the best goalkeeper we can have.
Today he played at a very high level, and we will continue helping and assisting in any way we can while he is still with us."

Varane withdrawal sees Yanga-Mbiwa called up to France squad
France head coach Didier Deschamps has called up Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa to replace injured Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane for their friendly clash with Germany on Wednesday night.
Varane has impressed for Los Blancos during Pepes absence and had earned himself a call-up to the senior squad, but looks to have picked up a knock in Madrids defeat to Granada on Saturday night.
The France Football Federation (FFF) has confirmed that the centre-back has pulled out of the upcoming friendly with a muscle injury, having met with the team doctor at the weekend.
This has led to new Newcastle United signing Yanga-Mbiwa being named as his replacement, and he will join up with the French squad on Monday in Clairefontaine.
The defender joined the Premier League club in January, having been chased by the likes of Arsenal last summer after skippering Montpellier to an unlikely Ligue 1 triumph in 2012.
He has been capped three times for France - making his debut less than 12 months ago - but missed out on making the nations Euro 2012 squad after being named in Laurent Blancs preliminary side.

Xavi ruled out for Spain with hamstring injury
Barcelona star Xavi has been ruled out of Spains friendly with Uruguay on Wednesday night with hamstring discomfort, Spains football federation (RFEF) has confirmed.
Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso had already pulled out of the international clash with a groin problem after the Blancos 1-0 defeat to Granada on Saturday night.
Alonsos fellow Spain team-mate but Liga adversary Xavi was examined by a Roja doctor on Sunday after complaining of pain in his right leg, and has been pulled out of the friendly squad to face the Copa America champions.
It is believed that the 33-year-old Blaugrana player picked up the issue in Barcas 1-1 draw with Valencia at the Mestalla on Sunday evening.
Vicente del Bosque still has a very strong squad to choose a starting line-up from, including the likes of Andres Iniesta, Juan Mata and Sergio Ramos.
No replacement has, as of yet, been announced to fill in for Xavi.

Nolito delighted with 'dream' start at Granada
Granada forward Nolito admits he never envisaged the relegation candidates beating Real Madrid in Saturday's encounter.
The 26-year-old Spaniard joined the club in the transfer window on loan from Benfica and could not have wished for a better start as his corner was put in by Cristiano Ronaldo, which ensured El Grana got their first win under new boss Lucas Alcaraz.
And the former Barcelona B attacker says the team went far beyond their expectations by getting the three points.
Our intention is to always put in a good performance, he told reporters.
But we got three points and that will give us great confidence.
Everyone can dream, but we knew it would be tough. We suffered physically, but we won.
Granadas victory has seen them rise to 16th in La Liga, while Real Madrid's defeat leaves the champions in third place, fifteen points behind Barcelona.

Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova has fielded a near full strength starting XI for his sides trip to face Valencia on Sunday evening in La Liga.
Spain internationals, Andres Iniesta and Pedro, will line-up in the front three along with Lionel Messi in what is a talented frontline for Los Cules.
The midfield trio consists of Sergio Busquets, Xavi and Cesc Fabregas. However, as the game progresses, expect the former Arsenal man to fluently swap positions with Andres Iniesta in attack.
Perhaps the only first-choice absentee is Carles Puyol. Javier Mascherano is preferred over the Barcelona club captain to partner Gerard Pique in the centre of defence this evening.
For Valencia, Victor Ruiz is once again dispatched as a midfield enforcer despite being a natural central defender. He will partner Tino Costa is the middle for Los Che.
Roberto Soldao is supported up top by an attacking trio of Juan Bernat, Andres Guardado, and Ever Banega.

Ramos: Real Madrid wounded by Granada defeat
Sergio Ramos has revealed that Real Madrid have been left "wounded" by their 1-0 loss to Granada.
Having drawn with Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, Blancos seemed jaded as they went down to an own goal from Cristiano Ronaldo on Saturday, with their hosts failing to register a single shot on target in the match.
The loss means that the Catalans can go 18 points clear of Madrid if they beat Valencia on Sunday evening, and Atletico Madrid can extend their lead over their neighbours to seven points should they beat Betis.
Ramos took to Twitter to say how everyone associated with the club was hurt by the loss, but added that the players would keep fighting for success.
"All Madridistas are feeling wounded today, above all the players," wrote the defender.
"But we are not going to give up on any competition, we will keep on going, for our badge and for our fans. Hala Madrid!"

Real Madrid had no luck against Granada, says Butragueno
Emilio Butragueno has claimed that Real Madrid were unlucky to fall to a 1-0 defeat against Granada and lamented the team's inability to find a way past the hosts' defence.
A Cristiano Ronaldo own-goal midway through the first half consigned the Spanish champions to their fifth Liga defeat of the season, but the legendary striker feels they suffered from the Andalusians' negative approach.
"Granada defended very well and we struggled," theclub director told their official website.
"We were not inspired. True, we had few chances, fewer than usual, but we did not have any luck. Their defensive structure blocked us, but you always have the hope that the individual quality appears.
"Karim Benzema had a chance to score. We tried to show up, but we could not today."
Ronaldo has reportedly been playing through an ankle injury, but the 49-year-old is certain that the Portuguese put in his usual standard of performance.
"He played with the same intensity as always and wanted to win," he added.

Madrid fell behind as Cristiano Ronaldo glanced the ball into his own net from a corner midway through the first half. The Portuguese changes his hairstyle for virtually every game, but the slicked-back look did him no favours on Saturday as the ball deceived Diego Lopez on its way in from the tightest of angles. Unfortunate it may have been, but it was nevertheless yet another set-piece strike conceded by Madrid this term. Bad habits can be difficult to shake.
This time, however, that rarely looked likely. Lacking the creative threat provided by the suspended Mesut Ozil and looking tired both mentally and physically following the extreme exertion expended in Wednesday's Clasico against Barcelona, the champions were unable to find a way back into the game.
The week strangely sums up the capital club's campaign in 2012-13 - brilliant versus Barca and then awful at times against the lesser sides. Madrid have paid the price for inconsistency this term and La Liga is now well out of reach - on Sunday, the Catalans can open the gap to 18 points between themselves and their fierce rivals.
Mourinho's men had given their all on Wednesday and, unusually in the Clasico, finished the game still strongly despite the vast effort required against the Catalan club. It was a monumental endeavour, but one which ultimately took its toll on Saturday after just three days' rest, up against a side with a new coach, Lucas Alcaraz, and who are fighting for their lives in the Primera Division.
Without Ozil and the motivation needed in a competition which is already beyond their reach, Madrid also struggled to create chances against the static side in front of them.
Despite the difficulty of such fixtures, Mourinho's men appear much more comfortable against attacking sides like Barcelona, who will come out of their shell, thus leaving spaces to be exploited on the break. But when faced with teams who sit back and soak up the pressure, this Madrid side still struggle to play through rivals like Granada and often rely on individual brilliance.
There was little of that in evidence on Saturday, with Ronaldo unable to provide much of a threat, Luka Modric showing some signs of breaking through yet still struggling and Angel Di Maria disappointing once more. So too, was Jose Callejon after he came off the bench, barely improving on his dreadful display in Wednesday's Clasico, while Karim Benzema was guilty of squandering a wonderful chance to level with six minutes left.
Madrid, claimed Marca in their headline, "failed to show up" - and it was an accurate assessment of a poor performance. But the important thing now will be for Mourinho's men to ensure they do "show up" in their Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Barcelona later this month - and also in the two-legged tie versus Manchester United in the Champions League.
The bad news is that they can forget all about La Liga in 2012-13. The good news? They can forget all about Andalucia as well - at least until next season.

Pellegrini: Monreal sale a blow for Malaga
Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini has expressed his disappointment at the club's sale of Nacho Monreal to Arsenal at the end of the January transfer window.
The Gunners signed the left-back for an estimated 10 million on transfer deadline day to cover for the injured Kieran Gibbs, and the Chilean bemoaned the exit of the talented defender.
"Monreal's exit is a very sad moment for the team. It deprives us of a very important player who performed to the highest standards", a frustrated Pellegrini said in a press conference.
The coach went on to state that not only was it a loss in footballing terms but it also epitomises the dire financial state that the Liga side find themselves in.
"Unfortunately, the reality of the club is what it is, and there is no way of hiding it. It was an option that came up at the last minute, and the club thought it was appropriate," he added.
"I understand they have to try and balance the books, because the pressure is on us from all sides, and we have received punishments. It is a major loss to us in sporting terms."

Granada boss Alcaraz 'unsurprised' by Real Madrid scalp
Lucas Alcaraz has insisted that Granada's 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in La Liga on Saturday should not be viewed as a surprise result.
Cristiano Ronaldo's own goal early in the first half was enough to hand the former Recreativo and Racing Santander boss a win on his debut in the Andalucians' hotseat and ensure his new troops distanced themselves from the drop zone.
And Alcaraz, who replaced Juan Antonio Anquela as coach earlier in the week, was quick to pay tribute to Granada's resilience against their more fashionable opponents, but called for calm from their supporters in the wake of their triumph.
"I was the one who had said this week that we could win, so I was surprised less than others with the result," the 46-year-old told reporters after the home victory.
"These games demand that you give almost all of your physical strength and attention, but we cannot delude our fans and their expectations [shouldn't soar]."

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has fumed that he is responsible for his side's 1-0 defeat toGranada on Saturday evening.
A bizarre Cristiano Ronaldo own goal - the first of his career - handed the hosts a fairytale lead, when the winger's attempted clearance of a corner glanced wrongly off his head and flew into Diego Lopez's net.
Karim Benzema had the opportunity to cap off a los Blancos fightback at the death, but shockingly side-footed wide from point-blank range to summarise a miserable outing for the Spanish champions.
"When we win and everyone plays well it's the result of self management, but when we lose it's the responsibility of the coach," an irate Mourinho thundered at reporters. "So we didn't play well today, we weren't ourselves, so now I'm the one responsible.
"We didn't manage a draw, and the result bothers me. It bothers me also that in the first half we were terrible, and, even if we tied in the second half, there would have been very little to be satisfied about."
The 50-year-old found fault with Barcelona again, citing the Liga leaders as having an extra day to recuperate after their Copa del Rey encounter on Wednesday night.
"It's been clear for a long time that teams do not have control of their calender. It was a huge and physically exhausting game on Wednesday, yet one team plays today, while the other plays tomorrow. It has always been the case," he continued caustically.
"A few of our players who played today were tired, because they worked tremendously in the full game against Barcelona.
"But I don't know why there were others who played today and were tired, yet they were either on the bench, or in the stands, on Wednesday."
Mourinho's season with Madrid has become dogged with frequent public run-ins with his squad, leading to rumours of him losing the support of his players growing in number.

Callejon: Real Madrid players receive racist insults
Jose Callejon has revealed that Real Madrid players are often the victims of racial abuse, and fears that it will be difficult to completely kick racism out of the game.
Barcelona defender Dani Alves complained about racist insults after Wednesday's Copa del Rey semi-final at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Callejon has revealed that the Brazil international is not the only player in La Liga who has to deal with the matter.
"Real Madrid is one of the clubs that has been on the receiving end of the most racist insults. It has happened to us and it is a problem that cannot be completely stamped out," the versatile attacker said at a press conference.
"It happened to [Kevin-Prince] Boateng in Italy and it is a matter of serious concern which we all hope will die out one day once and for all."
Fifa president Sepp Blatter recently stressed that national football associations should punish racism harshly, saying that deducting points and relegating a team would be a good sanction.

Roura stays silent on Clasico issues
After Wednesday night's cup clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona, the Blaugrana's stand-in coach Jordi Roura showed his desire to leave all the incidents in the past and move on, with a tricky league game at Valencia on Sunday.
Dani Alves was supposedly subjected to racist chants, while Messi was alleged to have called Aitor Karanka "Mourinho's puppet" after the final whistle.
But Roura refused to comment on the Clasico incidents, insisting he is concentrating on this weekend's encounter with Los Che.
"The team is only focused on Sunday's match. I will not comment on other issues, I only want to talk about football," he told reporters.
"The Mestalla has always been a tough place for us to go, particularly in the past four or five years, and they are in good form at the moment.
"The Clasico game won't affect us, we are focused on Sunday."
Roura also confirmed Sergio Busquets would be ready for the game.
He added: "He [Busquets] had a small problem, but he's been training normally and he will be available."
Barcelona are top of La Liga while Valencia are seventh.

ARSENAL UNLIKELY TO CONTINUE VILLA PURSUIT
Arsenals pursuit of David Villa is unlikely to continue into the summer after they failed with a deadline-day pursuit of the Spain forward.
The Gunners bid around 11 million for Villa in the last few days of the window and still held out hope of signing him right up until the final hours of a frenetic last day for the club.
Despite Villa making it clear that he wanted to move to Emirates Stadium, Barcelona held firm in their desire to hang on to Spains all-time record goalscorer until the summer.
It is understood that the runaway La Liga leaders might have caved in had they received an offer they felt they could not refuse for the 31-year-old, who has only been a bit-part player at Camp Nou this season.
Arsenal are likely to turn their attention elsewhere for a new centre-forward in the next window, even though Villas value will have decreased by then as he will only have 12 months remaining on his Barca contract.
The striker will be only four months short of his 32nd birthday when the new season starts and there are misgivings about giving him a lengthy contract of three years or more.

Evertons deadline day bid for Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo failed as the Spanish side refused to drop their 15 million asking price despite offering the forward to a number of English clubs during the January transfer window.
Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido wanted to cash in on Negredo to ease the clubs financial difficulties and offered the player to up to eight Premier League sides after a visit to London earlier in the month.
Tottenham and Chelsea also expressed an interest in the Spain international but it became clear that Del Nido was unwilling to drop the asking price.
Everton made a 9m bid for Negredo after an 8.6m move for Twente midfielder Leroy Fer fell through.

Jack Butland's agreement to swap Birmingham City for Stoke City, and not Chelsea, who had also made a bid, raised a few eyebrows on deadline day, not least among the Manchester United hierarchy.
United scouts have long monitored the young England goalkeeper and Sir Alex Ferguson is a firm admirer of Butland's promise.
And with David de Gea far from settled at Old Trafford following a string of high-profile errors and his girlfriend's well publicised desire for the couple to return to Spain, Butland was on a short-list of potential summer targets for the Red Devils.

Arsenal had an enquiry rebuffed for Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on deadline day.
The Gunners made their move after learning that Jack Butland had signed for Stoke but the England international has returned to Birmingham on loan, ruling out the possibility of Begovic leaving the Britannia Stadium until the summer, when he will be targeted by a number of Premier League big hitters.
Arsenal had identified a new goalkeeper as one of their priorities in the build-up to the window, given growing concerns about the form of Wojciech Szczesny.
They are expected to step up their search for a new No.1 in the coming months, with Begovic, Liverpools Pepe Reina and Swansea Citys Michel Vorm among those on the club's target list.

Tottenham are ready to give up on Leandro Damiao after growing exasperated with Brazilian club Internacional during the course of their two-year pursuit of the striker.
The north Londoners made a final bid for the 23-year-old worth 16 million on deadline day, but the offer was rejected by Internacional, who demanded more money spread over fewer payments and also suggested the player was not for sale in January, despite it being the off-season in Brazil.
While Spurs came close to striking a deal, their chances of landing Damiao were over long before the feverish speculation stopped, as they would have needed to apply for a work permit by lunchtime on Thursday.

Arguably the biggest move of the window saw Manchester City maverick Mario Balotelli move to AC Milan - a move that for a while it appeared Micah Richards might also make.
The defender, who has fallen down the pecking order at Eastlands this season, was a clear target of the Italian giants before Christmas and told friends of his excitement at a possible move.
However, Milan opted to focus their energies - and finances - on a move for Balotelli instead, leaving Richards to focus on how to usurp Pablo Zabaleta as first-choice right-back for City's title run-in.

Fulham made a late dash to sign a new goalkeeper on deadline day but missed out on top two targets Jack Butland and Maarten Stekelenburg.
The west Londoners offered 3 million to Birmingham City for Butland but were informed that his move to Stoke City was too far down the line.
The Cottagers had also been in contact with Stekelenburgs representatives throughout the window and agreed a deal with Roma to sign the Dutchman on loan until the end of the season.
However, the Serie A club pulled the plug on the deal when Stekelenburg was on a flight to London as they could not complete a deal to sign Emiliano Viviano from Fiorentina by the 6pm Italian deadline.

The 21-year-old joined the Werkself from Real Madrid at the start of the 2012-13 campaign, and he is pleased with the way he has adapted to his new surroundings.
"The rhythm of the game is different here. In Germany it's a lot faster, whereas in Spain the tempo is slower and more about possession," the right-back told the official Bundesliga website.
"The longer I'm here the more settled and at ease I feel."
Carvajal has developed into a key player at Leverkusen since his summer move, and he has no regrets over his move to the Bundesliga.
"Leverkusen showed a lot of interest in me. They told me Id play in the first team and that I was their first choice.
"I think I made the right decision. We're second in the table, we're doing well in the Europa League and I'm playing a lot, which is what I need to keep developing as a player."
The defender has made 17 Bundesliga appearances so far.

Osasuna's reserve team plays in Spain's Segunda Division B and has seen many a talented young player emerge before moving on to greater things. In 2005-06, the wonderfully named Promesas side was indeed full of young prospects - and one of the finest footballers of all was Nacho Monreal.
Nacho starred on the left side of the defence in that team, while his great friend Cesar Azpilicueta impressed on the right. Top-class full-backs may be a declining commodity in the modern game, but Osasuna produced two talents at once - one on each flank.
Their paths have been linked from the very beginning. First Monreal moved up to the first team, then Azpilicueta followed. Nacho made his senior debut at Mestalla, Cesar at the Bernabeu. Big games; even greater prospects.
Azpilicueta eventually joined Marseille in 2010 and Monreal signed for Malaga the following January. Now the two friends are reunited in London, with Cesar at Chelsea and Nacho at Arsenal. Pamplona will be proud.
Monreal has been capped nine times by Spain and is widely considered to be La Roja's second-best left-back, after Jordi Alba, and he has been on the radar of both Barcelona and Real Madrid recently, although the Catalans preferred to sign their former youth player last summer in a 14 million deal from Valencia.
Alba and Monreal are very different players. Nacho is less spectacular going forward than his international team-mate, but perhaps the more accomplished defensively. Technically gifted and astute positionally, Monreal is a brave and hard-working full-back who possesses impressive aerial ability, is a strong tackler, is comfortable on the ball and boasts a decent range of passing. In short, he has all the attributes to be a success in the Premier League.
A move to the Gunners almost happened in the summer and Monreal has since been learning English. A humble and level-headed man who shuns the limelight, the glitter and the glamour of the modern game, Nacho will work hard to make the move a success. And with Azpilicueta just down the road and former Malaga team-mate Santi Cazorla also at Arsenal, he should have no problems settling in, especially under Wenger, who is always ready to offer a few words in Spanish to his Iberian imports.
Although Monreal is cup-tied for the Champions League and cannot face Bayern Munich in the last 16, he is a player signed for the long term at the Emirates, offering an intriguing alternative to the more attack-minded Kieran Gibbs and the haphazard Andre Santos. At just 26 (he is 27 later in February), the Navarran is also approaching his best years and represents a shrewd signing by Wenger. The Frenchman has been accused of buying unsuitable, lightweight defenders in the past, but Gunners fans will be pleasantly surprised by Nacho Monreal.

Gago happy at Velez Sarsfield move despite supporting Boca Juniors
Fernando Gago says he believes he has made the right choice after joining Argentine side Velez Sarsfield on a six-month loan from Valencia, despite being a boyhood Boca Juniors fan.
The defensive midfielder had been linked with a return to boyhood club Boca Juniors after reportedly becoming unhappy with Valencia's sacking of coach Mauricio Pellegrino.
However, it was El Fortin, who last month won Argentina's Torneo Inicial, that ultimately won the race for his signature.
"Of all the options I had - Europe, Brazil and many sides - I chose Velez because I thought it was the best," the 26-year-old told reporters.
"Boca has always been my home. Since I was tiny I have been a fan of the club.
"I won many things there and enjoyed [my time there]. But four days ago was a different situation and Boca [already] has three re-inforcements," he added.

New signing Diego Buonanotte has revealed to Goal.com that his desire to play a more important role was the reason behind his decision to swap Malaga for Granada.
The diminutive Argentine completed his switch in a deal worth 2.3 million in January and is hopeful that under new coach Luca Alcaraz he will be given more chances to play.
"I left because I needed to find continuity, I need to play and be taken into account more by the coach," Buonanotte told Goal.com.
But having moved from Champions League high-flyers Malaga to relegation-threatened Granada, the former River Plate star is under no illusion as to the task facing his new side.
"Our target as a group is obviously to get the points in order to avoid relegation," he continued.
"At present, we are not [in] the relegation places but we are far too close."
The Andalucian side entertain a resurgent Real Madrid on Saturday in the Primera Division, however, Buonanotte is optimistic his new team can collect points.
"We have to start getting points at home and this starts by working hard during the week," he added.
"Now we have a big game against Real Madrid and though it will be tought, we need to start collecting the points we need."
Despite being happy at his move, Buonanotte does regret failing to make an impact at Malaga, and says he did not believe he was a favoured player of coach Manuel Pellegrini.
"The team (Malaga) made the Champions League and are now in the knockout. Personally, in the last two months I played and I scored in the Champions League, the Copa del Rey and La Liga. I though I was doing well, [but] I was left disappointed.
"I thought [I would] stay after enjoying more playing time. However, I did not stay because I knew I was not a favorite of Pellegrini. He did not ask me to go however, it was my decision."

Moyes confirms failed Everton bid for Negredo
Everton manager David Moyes has confirmed that the club attempted to sign Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo on transfer deadline day.
The Toffees made the Spaniard their top target after missing out on Twente midfielder Leroy Fer due to a problem with the player's medical.
Moyes' side were willing to spend 10.4 million on Negredo on the final day of the transfer window but the forward's club were holding out for a higher fee.
The Everton boss told reporters: "We wanted to add players if we could who could go into the team and we tried to do that right up to the end, but for reasons out of our control it didn't happen. It wasn't for the want of trying, that is for sure.
"We tried [for Negredo], but it didn't work. They wanted a lot more money than we offered."
Meanwhile, Moyes also revealed his concerns with the Goodison Park pitch ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
He added: "I've not even spoken to the groundsman. The groundsman's not said anything about it.
"But it's not as if we've played loads of games at Goodison this year. It's not as if we've had loads of cup ties or lots of reserve games on it, so it's not had an awful lot of football played on it."

Alcaraz delighted at facing Real Madrid on Granada debut
New Granada head coach Lucas Alcaraz is looking forward to making his debut against Real Madrid.
The much-travelled tactician took over from Juan Antonio Anquela this week as the club attempt to rectify their season and stave off the threat of relegation.
Alcaraz, who arrives after a stint with Aris in Greece, returns to the club he left 15 years ago and is excited to be facing Real Madrid on his debut match.
To start at home, against Madrid in the Primera Division - you cannot pick a better script. What we face is well known, the 46-year-old told reporters today.
I have lacked the time to do what I intended so far. Madrid will be a tough opponent, player for player. But I prefer to think of our chances.
We have to have the motivation of the players to address the lack of time we have had to prepare a new playing model.
When there is a change on the bench there is always a reaction. Everyone tries to show more intensity and interest. We lack the hours to work with what we have in mind, but I see the determination.
It is one thing to want to convey this and another to translate it. Within this framework is also the experience and motivation of the players.
We have to defend as a team. We cannot think of a specific player [in reference to Cristiano Ronaldo]. Broadly speaking, we want a team that does not give up on any facet of the game.
We intend to take the initiative in games and be an organised team. We need to improve our concentration, attention and individual responsibility.
Granada will host Real Madrid in La Liga on Saturday night and will have to greatly improve on their home form which has seen them pick up just two wins from 10 outings if they are to come away with anything against Jose Mourinho's men.

Atletico Madrid-Real Betis Betting Preview: Why backing 2-3 goals looks a sound investment
Having met in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey just a couple of weeks ago, these two sides will be familiar with the various threats posed by the opposition, and Sunday's game at the Vicente Calderon should be an entertaining encounter. Those statistics alone should have punters rushing to back Diego Simeone's men in some way, yet the Argentine will be demanding a lot more from his side than he saw in their last league outing when they were humbled 3-0 at Athletic Bilbao. Betis too will be keen to bounce back having also suffered a 3-0 defeat in their last game, just down the road from Atletico Madrid at Rayo Vallecano. Having scanned BetVictor's numerous markets for the game, perhaps the best bet would appear to be backing 2-3 goals in the match at the healthy price of 17/20 (1.85).
This is an intelligent bet because it gives punters plenty of options, but analysing recent result it also looks to have a great chance of paying out, having proved the correction selection in Atletico's last six matches, as well as in Betis' previous five encounters. To add more compelling weight to the argument for investing in 2-3 goals, this bet paid out in both legs of the cup quarter-final between these sides, and has also paid out in five of their last seven meetings.
For a value bet, back Atleti to win 2-0 at 11/2 (6.50) as remarkably this has been the score in three of their last four home games.
